Herald's Howl Tisane was created as a help for our local "Criers of the Camp" during an SCA event called Gulf Wars. They were short of Volunteers to cry the camps with daily info for all those involved in the event. There was one such young strong woman that was "stuck" with the job for 3 times a day, almost 5 days straight. By the end of day one, she was shot!
We offered our services for the woman by offering her a blended tisane that was designed to help with the sore throat, the loss of voice and the dryness that comes with strained vocal cords.
Needless to say, she came back for seconds...and thirds.. "It worked!" she kept saying, (of course, it worked), And we all kept smiling!
Both HoneyBush and Rooibos teas both are soft and excellent as detoxifiers and rich in Antioxidants. The both teas are perfect as a base for the other ingredients that are what this Tisane is all about.
Here is a list of the benefits of the other ingredients.
Wild Cherry bark: contains chemicals that might help reduce swelling (inflammation) and have a drying (astringent) effect on the tissues of the throat.
Ginger: has been shown to be effective against exercise-induced muscle pain.
Coltsfoot: it’s been shown to treat respiratory infections, sore throats, gout, flu, and fever.
slippery elm bark: Slippery elm contains chemicals that can help soothe sore throats. It can also cause mucous secretion which might be helpful for stomach and intestinal problems.
Marshmallow: Some natural and herbal cough syrups and cough drops contain marshmallow root. The mucilage may have a soothing effect on the esophagus by coating it.
Elder flowers: is used as a gargle and mouthwash for coughs, colds, hoarseness (laryngitis), flu, and shortness of breath.
Elder berries: The berries and flowers of elderberry are packed with antioxidants and vitamins that may boost your immune system. They can help tame inflammation, lessen stress, and help protect your heart, too. Some experts recommend elderberry to help prevent and ease cold and flu symptoms.
Lemon Peel: Like other citrus fruits, lemon peels contain vitamin C, which can help keep your immune system strong. If you’re starting to feel sick, lemon peel into your foods or even in your tea could help give your body the extra boost it needs to power through.
Thyme: Thyme essential oil, which is obtained from its leaves, is often used as a natural cough remedy. In one major medical study, a combination of thyme and ivy leaves helped to alleviate coughing and other symptoms of acute bronchitis.
