Hopalong Hoopsnake is named after a story in folklore, some told by Pecos Bill. It's about a snake that can grasp it's own tail and roll along like a wheel, where at the last second, it would suddenly straighten out and strike it's victim with it's venomous tail, killing it. Story goes that the only way to avoid it is to hide behind a tree and when the snake strikes the tree by mistake, it kills itself.
Sightings are still occasionally reported, though the existence of the hoop snake has never been accepted by the scientific community. Ok...um, yea.
If we are to believe the story of the Hoopsnake and it's last minute strike of venom, I would think that this would give a likely description of the attitude of this blend. It's savory and wonderful blend belies the mild burn that comes out of nowhere! You can smell the enticing aroma while your meat is grilling or baking but only after you've tasted the dish, does this surprise you with a bite back! It's not a real harsh hot, it's more of a really nice warmth. (thus speaks the spice wimp).
