Chicken Caravan Mild Tandoori blend started as a British translation of the famous Indian Tandoori dish.
Story goes like this...
Gentleman walking along a London street late at night feeling the need to eat something different. He comes across an Indian restaurant he has never tried before and steps in the door. It's late but the young Indian man seats the gentleman and offers a menu. The man opens the menu but is not impressed with the usual fare that he sees all the time in most of his other Indian Haunts...
Then He spies an older Indian gentleman in the corner with a bowl of rice and onions and chicken in a red sauce he has never seen before...and the fragrance wafting over was compelling! He tells the Young waiter, "I'll what he's having" indicating the older Indian gentleman in the corner.
The Young Indian man looks in mild shock and says, "But that is my aged grandfather. He only loves his English tomato soup with left overs from the kitchen!"
"But I really would like to try that, It smells great!" says the English bloke.
What was put in front of the Englishman was the first English version of the Red Tandoori...
Rice, onions, garlic, vegetables and small bites of chicken all in a mild Tandoori sauce with tomato...
Easy to make, and fast disappearing from the Table!
Here's a really fast dish that can't go wrong...
In a large sauce pan, saute one medium sliced into strips, onion in Ghee or butter. Saute till just transparent. Add 3 finely minced garlic cloves, 2 coined carrots, 2 cubed potatoes, cup of peas, and cup of chunked peppers. Saute that till just starting to brown. At this point, if you want chicken, cut it up to 1" cubes and add at this point to brown as well.
Add 3 cups of Vegetable broth and 1-2 tablespoon of Auntie Arwen's Chicken Caravan Mild Tandoori blend and stir till well blended.
You can add about 1 cup of cooked rice or 1 cup of uncooked well rinsed Basmati Rice. Stir well!
Cover and cook for about 15-20 minutes till the rice is well cooked. It should be a bit loose but don't panic if it's not. Either way, Serve in a bowl with Yogurt or coconut milk on the side,...and don't forget the Naan bread!
