Ingredients : Oregano, garlic, lemon peel, dill weed & seed, mild NM chili pepper, spearmint, cinnamon, mace, chervil.
Old Fashioned Greek Seasoning is excitingly versatile. It can be the herbal base for your salads to sauces and meat dishes. The spearmint is what gives it the brightness and aromatic, along with the cinnamon and lemon. It makes the best salad dressings, vinegar reduction sauces, and added to meat balls or marinara sauce, can make a pasta dish rise to a whole new level!
I like to make my Greek pasta salad using this blend and it's always a hit at picnics or family functions!
I take a novelty pasta (about 2-3 cups) and boil it till just tender, and then rinse and chill it.
In a large salad bowl, I grate a carrot and cut a cucumber up to small chunks, add either a cup of Greek olives or just black olives.
In a separate bowl, Mix in 1/4 cup red or white wine vinegar, 2 tablespoons of water and 1/3 to 1/2 cup of Olive Oil and 3 tablespoons of Auntie Arwen's Old Fashioned Greek Seasoning. Mix well... (I usually like to do this in a mason jar with a tight fitting lid, it mixes so easy when you just shake the jar...)
Add to the salad bowl, the well chilled pasta, and pour the dressing over the contents! Toss!
(Optionally I like to top it all off with slices of tomato, feta cheese crumbles, quarted hard boiled eggs, or even stuffed grape leaves!) I never have left overs...no matter how much I make. (sigh).
Enjoy!
