Kublai Khan's Pleasure Dome Salt blend is a very rich blend of diverse and exotic flavors and scents. It's recipe is purported to have it's origins in the early 1250's but there is no proof. The ingredients used are well documented to come from the Mongolian Steppes and along the famous Silk Road. It still has the same draw as it could have had back then and there is no doubt that it is delicious!
Long Pepper is a type of Pepper that looks like tiny pine cone but it grows in the Orient and India regions.
Smoked Sweet Paprika is grown and developed as a spice in the Romanian and Slavic region.
Grains of Paradise is a tiny seed that has the same attitude as pepper but with a cleaner finish and bright fragrance.
And Cardamom is a seed removed from large black pods that are grown in the same region and area as Long pepper.
All of these regions were conquered by Kublai Khan and his generals during his reign. They traveled all the way from China to France and Germany.... and back again!
These flavors blended are incredible as well as the scent mouth watering.
I love to use this blend on rice or Potatoes, on eggs, on fish and chicken and especially on pork! Use it as a salt or as a seasoning. Either way, it's delicious!
