AUNTIE ARWEN'S November-December NEWSLETTER

Well, hello again! It's been an interesting year, and poor ol' Auntie has been so busy what with developing a few new blends, dealing with the weeds in the garden, housing over a cord of seasoned split wood (a woodstove is a very good thing, especially on slow snowy days when the cats are inside making themselves comfy, resembling furry throw pillows, and I'm simmering a serious stew over that woodstove. Bread, of course, is set to rise on the radiator, and that glorious yeasty smell, mixed in with the aroma of my Mesmerizin' Mulling Spices in some cider heating on the woodstove next to the iron pot of stew, makes for a Very Good Day.
I suppose you want some recipes. Here goes; these make for nice snacks for kids, skiiers, ice fishermen, hunters, whatever.

AUNTIE ARWEN'S WICKED GOOD ENERGY MIX

AUNTIE ARWEN'S WALDORF STYLE ENERGY MIX

Rødgrød med fløde [Red berry pudding with cream] (Norway & Denmark)

Yield: enough for 8 people or 2 Danes/Norwegians. Food mill, mixmaster, nice serving bowl, stainless 1 ½ qt. saucepan, small screwcap jar Put the water and the arrowroot into the screwcap jar, put the lid on securely, and shake until the arrowroot powder is in suspension. Puree the berries in the food mill, held over a saucepan (you should get just over 2 c.of the puree) Put on stove, bring to boil (stir constantly!) When puree is boiling, shake the arrowroot/water mix again and add that, stirring it in. When the puree thickens (simmer, NOT boil), remove pot from heat Pour puree into bowl, chill, then refrigerate Serve with almonds scattered on top, with a pitcher of cream to the side.
Oops, gotta go. Will try to write more newsletters, more frequently. Enjoy the winter!

WEB PAGE UPDATE

Our web page reads best on a screen whose resolution is set at 800 x 600. To do this, click on the "start" button (lower left on your screen), select "settings", and then select "control panel", then double click to get "display". Now, click on the tab marked "settings", and you'll see a "slider" sort of to the right side. Your settings may well be 640 by 480 (lower resolution), so mouse that slider about halfway and 800 x 600 will display. It also asks you for the type and make of monitor. Mine was made by Brand X, so I entered the "standard" options.

Please, please check out the web page ( www.auntiearwenspices.com ) and email me at auntiearwen@snet.net any comments, corrections, howlers, hints to improve things, stuff I oughta stock, etc. I especially would like input from blind readers; I want this site to be as accessible as possible for you! Please do note that I can do Braille labelling!
